One of the kiddos I work with did the same and I was so honored that he let me in to that part of his life. He's really an amazing kid, and it sounds like Alik is too!Mollyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15881590483174001768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2348227215962540982.post-25821252805524948112011-08-19T13:15:45.062-05:002011-08-19T13:15:45.062-05:00Very heart warming moment.... Many of the blogs I follow are of kids with Ds and many times, it's a mystery what their former lives were like because they are either too young, or aren't verbal enough to express what orphanage life was like. It's so interesting to hear what Alik remembers and thinks about his former life. Being older, he must truly understand what being an orphan meant and must have known there was different life outside of the walls of the orphanage. I'm so happy he is in your loving, and safe home where he can feel free to be himself and share with you what his life was like. Hugs to all your gorgeous kiddos!!Lisa (DanielsMommy)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15137345504661607185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2348227215962540982.post-83695686116145088762011-08-17T08:51:27.222-05:002011-08-17T08:51:27.222-05:00Tears and smiles and quiet awe at how our Daddy lo...Tears and smiles and quiet awe at how our Daddy loves us. hugs, mama.Beckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00817929953380695272noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2348227215962540982.post-90551498790329040252011-08-17T00:22:40.858-05:002011-08-17T00:22:40.858-05:00Oh, how I loved this (typed through tears.) And how exciting for him to feel free and safe to remember and share those memories - and for you guys to hear all about them!!! :)Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17133484357687888891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2348227215962540982.post-1960388435846869512011-08-16T21:38:58.474-05:002011-08-16T21:38:58.474-05:00Jessica, it's great to hear how he is settling...Jessica, it's great to hear how he is settling in and trusting you guys! There may also be something else going on, too. Translation, the ability to go back and forth between two languages and relate objects between them, is a COMPLETELY separate skill from speaking a language. A person (and especially a child) can be perfectly fluent in two languages and still not be able to tell you on command what something in called in language X. It's just one of those weird things. Generally, children get better at it as they get more fluent, but some never develop the skill while others are able to do it easily all along. Just wanted to let you know, because he won't answer doesn't necessarily mean that he is forgetting his Russian or just being stubborn.Kathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02950005795704227435noreply@blogger.com
